By on July 12, 2011

How long have you been out there fighting the good fight, for your social media pages? Social media marketing is one of the most challenging, exhilarating and rewarding of all the online marketing pursuits. That’s why it’s always good to sit up, and learn a few new hot tips about the things you could be doing – that you’re not currently doing! Onward!

#1: The Interchangeable Traffic Funnel

You probably spend a lot of time driving traffic to your website – but how often do you drive traffic to your other social media sites? Increase your Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn communities by transferring traffic there from your blog, website and sales pages! The road runs both ways.

#2: Make a High Powered Friend

Make it your mission, to form a relationship with a big player in your niche field. Strike up a conversation, send a tweet, leave a Facebook message – do what you have to do, to connect with that thought leader. They’ll come in handy for a huge variety of reasons later on.

#3: Create an Incredible Hashtag

Brainstorm for a few days and come up with a tantalizing hashtag that people in your niche will love to use. Then spend exactly one month promoting that hashtag absolutely everywhere you can. Do your best to make it a trending topic.

#4: Go Out of Your Way For a Stranger

Marketers and other businesses online are always trying to get people to do things for them – you know, for promotion and sales. What do you think would happen if you did something great for them, for no reason at all? Instant friend status – and an immediate ally in the marketing world.

#5: Be a Genuine Giver

Sometimes, you just have to give away an incredible product to a bunch of fans – because they’re there, and you can. Nothing attracts larger followings than giving freely, and never demanding anything in return. Time to become a genuine giver for a larger community, and more social media profits.

#6: Keep a Lessons Note Book

This might sound silly, but you’d be surprised how many top marketers keep a record of every single one of their mistakes, failures and valuable lessons. They are inspiring, and will keep you from repeating yourself in new and tragic ways online. Sometimes they’re notebooks, sometimes they’re giant excel spreadsheets – you choose.

#7: Pencil in Business Free Social Media

Every excellent social media strategy needs a bit of frivolity. You don’t always have to be working for that end goal. It’s also nice to meet new people, do fun things and have conversations that won’t translate into anything but new friends.

#8: Be Aware of Third Party Sites

Third party sites can drastically improve your social media marketing tactics, but first you need to know where they are, and what they can do for you. This means staying ahead of the latest news in your niche, and in social media. You would also do well treating third party apps the same way.

#9: Improve Your Social Metrics

How good is your tracking and measuring system? Can you improve it? What third party apps could help? No matter what you do, there is always something more efficient out there. Improving your social metrics will improve every aspect of your marketing efforts on social media.

#10: Do Not Ignore Trends

For some reason marketers sometimes don’t like a particular site, and then refuse to use it. The internet is all about trends – and you have to follow them. If FourSquare is the hottest new social site online, investigate it now. It will pay off later. Whatever you do, don’t go against the mainstream sentiment, they’re your clients!
