3 Powerful Tools to Improve Your Blog Post Headlines

By on June 10, 2019

Whether you’ve only just started a blog or have been blogging for several months to years, increasing website traffic can be fairly tough. Especially if the content you put out isn’t very valuable and interesting as it could be.

More and more articles are being published every single day. Some turn out extremely successful and others, well, just don’t perform great.

One of the main reasons why some articles don’t perform well and generate enough social media shares is due to the blog post’s title.

It’s the very first thing your audiences will see, and it’s at that exact moment in time whether the title convinces them to read further.

So if the question “why am I not getting any traffic to my blog?” comes to mind, then you’re reading the right article. Today, you’ll learn my top favorite tools and techniques for writing catchy blog post headlines, leaving your readers itching to read further.

Top Tools For Writing Catchy Blog Post Headlines

When it comes to writing blog posts or even editing them, one thing you really need to pay attention to is the blog post’s headline. If you really want to make your blog a success, you need to write catchy headlines that entice your readers to click.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of brilliant tools on the web that does the hard work for you. These are my favorite tools that I’d highly suggest all bloggers try out.

CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer

The Headline Analyzer by CoSchedule is by far one of the best I’ve used. The free tool simply works by entering your blog post title. It will then return with some results grading your headline out of 100. You’ll see an analysis of the overall structure, grammar, and readability of your headline.

When utilizing this tool, it’s worth looking at all the results including the length as this plays an important part, especially when your post is viewed via Google Search.

This tool isn’t just useful for general blogs and company blogs, but also online magazines and news publications too. For example, Revealing Britain utilizes this tool to ensure the blog post titles are as catchy as they can be to entice more click-throughs to the content. Since using this tool, they’ve doubled, almost tripled the CTR from social media shares.

ShareThrough’s Headline Analyzer

This Headline Analyzer tool by ShareThrough comes in handy not only for blog headlines, but also for ad copy and subject lines. The tool works very similar to CoSchedule. Just enter your headline and click “Find Out”.

You’ll then receive results on how engaging your headline is and will be scored out of 100. This tool is really helpful for improving your headlines as it not only tells you the strengths but also gives you some suggestions to make.

The tool then provides you with an engagement score and an impression score, both of which will help you with crafting the best engaging blog post headline.

Emotional Marketing Value Headline Analyzer

Advanced Marketing Institute’s Emotional Marketing Value Headline Analyzer tool also makes the list due to its fantastic scoring system which evaluates your headline in an emotional way which is one of the keys to successful copywriting. Mastering your headline is the most important thing to reach new prospects, and with this tool, it’s possible and free.

Just like the two other tools, enter your blog post headline in the text box, select the appropriate category and then press “Submit For Analysis”.

The headline analyzer will then return with the Emotional Marketing Value (EMV) score.

According to the tool, the English language contains around 20% EMV words. Most professional copywriters’ headlines will average between 30% – 40% EMV words. So try to aim for that level or above. Keep in mind, for a score of 100%, you’re likely going to need less than 5 words, which is very rare.

One of the best features of this free tool is the fact it even gives you an emotion classification.

Don’t Forget These Key Formulas

Utilizing the above tools is important for crafting the best possible blog post headline, but whilst doing so, don’t forget about the key formulas. The below will help boost the CTR of your posts, especially when shared on social media networks.

Use Numbers

Utilizing numbers in your headlines increase click-through rates massively. Often used in listicles, these entice your audience to read further.

For example, out of the two variations below, which sounds a like more engaging blog post headline?

I hope you said the latter because you’re right. Even if it’s not a listicle type article you’re publishing, try to at least include numbers wherever possible.

Use Powerful Words

Where possible, swap out the common words with more powerful actionable words that entice your reader to do something or make them want to read further. By utilizing the tools mentioned above, you’ll be able to find out what words are common and replace those with powerful words, for example, Painless, Powerful, Success, Straight-forward, Definitive etc.

Grammar Check!

Before you even think about publishing an article, you should be grammar checking everything. Using tools like Grammarly will check your grammar as you continue to type your articles. It’s perfect for grammar checking your headlines and will sometimes improve them further by reducing necessary words. It’ll also point out any grammar issues and provide you with advice on how to fix.

Hopefully, the above tips will help with boosting your blog post traffic and increase your social media shares. If you have any other tips to add, feel free to share them in the comments below!
