Trends change every other month in social media, so today I’m going to update you on what the latest smoking hot trends are. They’re brand new, and they making waves with social marketers all over the globe. Maybe you need to add a few of these to your social box of tricks this year?

#1: Google+ Breaks The 90 Million Mark

Google+ recently powered through the 90 million user mark. That’s a lot of users! Maybe it’s time to start taking Google+ seriously. Thanks to the big search boost that users get with SEO, it doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. If you can’t add Google+ to your social networking strategy, at least use it in your SEO strategy.

#2: Pinterest as a Social Marketing Strategy

Pinterest is the fastest growing social site, ever. It has over 10.4 million users already. Businesses are starting to see Pinterest as a valuable viral marketing strategy. Fans love to subscribe to their friends pinboards, and images are shared super quickly as a result. It can do the same for your brand. Add this one to your strategy.

#3: Content Marketing is the New Pink

There is a groundswell happening among large brands, as they begin to realize that all content on the internet needs to be visible. Social marketing is a key element in content marketing – but the two are irrevocably tied together. If you don’t know what content marketing is just yet – find out. It will change your strategies forever.

#4: Location Based Marketing

Local marketing is where it’s at, but location based marketing is where the money is! Usually this involves mobile advertising to a specific location or locale. Perhaps it’s time you checked out Facebook and Twitter’s new mobile offerings? They’re gaining popularity very fast, and they can only get better.

#5: Time For Your TV Showcase: On Youtube

Cisco predicts that over 62% of consumer traffic on the internet will be driven by internet videos. Right now it’s sitting at a whopping 40%. If you’ve been struggling to drive traffic to your business – Youtube videos are the best way to do it. If you still don’t have a Youtube channel, you’re just not a fully fledged social business.

BONUS: Take a sneak peek into the gaming market on Facebook. They’ve recently changed the way you can get app installs through paid advertising. Using this method, and enough financial investment – you’ll be able to launch applications that have the potential to go viral, based on user interaction and paid results.

These five smoking trends will change your strategies in a lot of ways, but only if you let them. Social marketing is all about staying ahead of the trends.
