Building a website and then forgetting about it

Your business website is the central hub of your online presence. However, it is pointless if you don’t actively market it. Search engines like websites that are active and useful to the customers. So don’t just build a website and forget about it. You can use the following techniques to generate traffic to your site and find customers:

Search Engine Marketing (SEM)

SEM is a paid marketing technique to promote your business’s website on search engine results pages.

Social Media Marketing (SMM)

SMM is a social media advertising technique to promote your product or services and drive traffic to the business website.

Email Marketing

Email marketing is the best way to update your customers about your product information. Include a link to a landing page on your website. It will help you to drive traffic to your site.

Content Marketing

Blogs are one of the best ways to drive customers to your website. Creating high-quality content that is interesting and valuable can bring repeat customers and visitors. It is a quick and economical way to increase site traffic. You can select a couple of keywords relevant to your business and create compelling content on a regular basis. It may not improve your website traffic, but will boost your search engine ranking.

Your domain name is part of your marketing strategy

Your domain name isn’t just your web or email address. It’s a marketing channel for your business. It’s a tactic that you can quickly implement to drive your brand. Register a distinct domain name to launch each marketing campaign and link it with a page on your existing website that supports the campaign. Use keywords in these domain names. Research from Verisign confirms that using keywords in the domain names makes a difference. People intend to click on the link with a keyword instead of the one without.

Having poor customer support

Your existing customers are as valuable as potential clients. Often businesses overlook the fact that your customers will return to you only if they had a good experience with your service for the first time. Having a strong customer support team can help you to create a good connection with your customers bringing them back, and staying with your brand. There is also a possibility that they may refer you. However, customer support shouldn’t be limited to your website. Your social media channels are equally important. Monitor what people are saying about your product. Reply to all the customer queries. It will help build trust in your brand.

No clear call to action

Sure, you created a beautiful website with excellent customer support. However, are you able to convert your potential leads into potential customers? If not, then you may be wasting the hundreds of dollars you spent on your website advertising. Your business website needs a clear “call-to-action”. Let’s say a customer landed on your website following one of your marketing campaigns. You can engage him with a variety of calls-to-action like, “Request a call back”, “fill this inquiry form now” or anything that would encourage a user to act. However, be careful not to go overboard. Having too many calls-to-action on a single page may frustrate the customer. They may think your website is spam and steer clear. Focus on the goal of each page and stay focused.

Giving too much content away

Giving information to people is good. However, if you have too much content on a single page, your website visitors will lose interest. Offer something that is useful and intangible that would excite and interest them, in exchange for their email address. The end goal of the free product is to build your customer base. You may offer an e-book, guide in your niche, a webinar or anything else, but make sure that your content is clear and concise.

Before you start…

You won’t get a second chance to make a first impression. When people come to your website and don’t have a good user experience, they won’t come back. A strategically planned business website will help you build trust with potential customers. The key is to be yourself.
