The Big Four: A Look At The Top Social Media Sites- Part Four, YouTube

By on June 15, 2009

In our last post on covering the four biggest social media sites there are at the moment, we’ll be taking a look at YouTube.  We started the series off with Linkedin, Facebook, and then Twitter, laying out briefly what each networking site was like and why you should be on them.

Even some of the most un-savvy online users have probably heard of YouTube at least in passing.  It is, after all, probably the biggest online video site there is.  Everyday, thousands of video clips are loaded and you’ll find just about everything on there – from funny home videos and your neighbor’s third-grade child’s Holiday concert, to business lectures, product demonstrations and so. Much. More.

Why Should You be on YouTube?

YouTube, already a giant at the time, was acquired by search-engine giant Google in October of 2006, who then decided to include videos in search results.  This is a big deal for businesses and professionals looking for ways to show up on the first page of search results under otherwise very competitive keywords (for more on keywords, click here).

Aside from search results, placing a video on YouTube is a great way to engage your customers and share your knowledge.  Give others a taste of the behind-the-scenes happenings at your company, or demonstrate your product and its uses – the possibilities are endless.

There are so many ways to use YouTube, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook to increase your brand awareness and drive more customers to your blog or website, that we could spend an hour discussing each site alone.  If you’re interested in learning more about how to use these sites, check out our Social Media Marketing University program, which covers not only the big four social networking sites in-depth, but also takes a good look at social media overall and how to leverage it for you business.
