Major League Baseball: Who Wins the Social Media World Series?

By on October 22, 2014

There are tons of stats to follow when it comes to Major League Baseball. Batting average, home runs, pitches thrown per inning, assists and stolen bases allowed are just a few and the list goes on.  There’s even an @MLBStatoftheDay Twitter profile that shares daily nuggets of valuable baseball information directly from the league. For example, did you know that “the @SFGiants are the first team since the 2005 @whitesox to hit for the cycle in Game 1 of the #WorldSeries?”

But one stat that baseball fans may not be as familiar with is this one: Most influential MLB teams on Twitter.

With the World Series in full swing, StatSocial, a leading social analytics provider, developed an infographic ranking MLB teams based on their influence on Twitter. The firm also collected data and insights on who tweets about each team and their demographics, ranging from age and gender to favorite brands.

It’s no surprise (to me) that the Yankees are first at bat on the list of most influential teams. The Red Sox, Dodgers, San Francisco Giants and Braves (in that order) round out the top five.

Where does your team fall on the list? Are you surprised with the results?

We want to hear from you. Let us know your thoughts on this new list in the comments section. Play ball!
