#SMMUChat Recap: 5 Tips for Leveraging LinkedIn as a Marketing Tool

By on November 11, 2011

If you missed #SMMUChat this week, we discussed ways to leverage LinkedIn to enhance corporate and personal brands. Among some of the tips and insights shared during the chat by John Souza, founder and chief strategist of Social Media Magic and SMMU were:

  1. Invest at least 30 minutes each week in your LinkedIn profile. Create a calendar or task list to plan what and how often you’ll post to increase your visibility and position yourself or your brand as a market leader.
  2. When joining LinkedIn Groups, remember that you’re not there to pitch or sell your products and services. You’re there to be helpful, share resources and add value.
  3. If you want to leverage LinkedIn to promote a product or service, establish a Company Page. This is a great platform to highlight what your company has to offer.
  4. Avoid sending generic requests for recommendations. Send personalized requests that make mention of specific projects or milestones to help colleagues and clients craft a recommendation that you can be proud of.
  5. Recommendations can be leveraged outside of LinkedIn. Use stellar recommendations on your website, in your newsletter, in your email signature and on other appropriate platforms.
