How Well Do You Know Your Twitter Followers?

By on March 16, 2015

Since it was first incorporated in 2007, Twitter has without a doubt become one of the most popular social media platforms among both consumers and brands. The platform currently supports 288 million monthly active users, and 500 million Tweets are sent each day.

Most brands that use Twitter leverage it to share information, drive awareness and engage in ongoing dialog with their target audience and customers. One area where brands still miss the mark is using Twitter as a tool to gather data about their customers in an effort to fine tune not only their messaging, but their overall marketing objectives, services and product offerings.

Twitter can provide invaluable insight into demographics and customer affinities. For example, how well do you know your customers’ interests? What other brands are their favorites? What type of media are they consuming on an ongoing basis? These are all questions that could be potentially answered by doing a deep dive into your Twitter data.

StatSocial is a social analytics provider that  gives brands a microscopically detailed view of their audience composition and characteristics so they can better understand their audience, as well as continue to build it. Upon the launch of the third season of the Netflix hit House of Cards, the team at StatSocial tracked and analyzed tweets about the show, and put together an infographic detailing demographics and affinities of fans of Frank Underwood.

So what did they discover?

The audience that tweeted about the show was comprised of 53% men and 47% women, the majority of whom were between the ages of 25 and 34. The audience is more likely than the average Twitter user to be interested in screenwriting, VOX, Chris Pratt and Orange Is the New Black (OITNB). They are also interested in clothing, humor, national news, television and video games.
